marshmallowchronicles:

Before we left we wondered just how far Mugsy would get with us. She would have been 16 in February. People were constantly shocked when we told them her age. We only met one dog her senior on our travels—in the green Oaxacan mountains.
She was just about the best four legged traveling companion you could ask for: patient with long days in the truck, and thrilled with each new spot. When we surfed, she ran up and down the water’s edge tracking us, but also checking every other surfer on their way to the sand, just to be sure.
Fifteen years is a long time I realized towards the end. So much changed in my life in that time, so many addresses, so many different chapters. Always though, there was Mugsy, the one constant.
Mugsy made it as far south at Puerto Sandino, Nicaragua. We backtracked into El Salvador afterward and that’s where her body finally gave out- so quickly too. I buried her in the woods within earshot of Punta Mango on the coast there.
We were lucky to have her as long as we did.
